TRACEY PADDISON

ARTIST RESIDENCE AND

LONG ISLAND EXHIBITION

The title of this body of work is taken from the village name of Ynyshir, which, when translated, means “Long Island”.

As part of my artist residency at the Workers Gallery, I displayed work exploring Ynyshir and its inhabitants. The work so far is a result of a community photography event hosted by the Workers Gallery on June 22nd, 2019.

It’s the people who observe my work that give it any kind of meaning

This current work is a starting point for a new on-going, multimedia project. My intention is to explore and document Ynyshir, connecting and encouraging community collaboration by incorporating archive materials, verbal recordings of people speaking from their own experience, and accompanying lens-based media. The project will therefore present a record of village life in the South Wales Valleys.
